Medical Plans (Active Employees)

The State of Idaho offers three medical plan options through Regence Blue Shield of Idaho. Employees can select the plan that best meets their needs and gives access to providers in their geographic area. Each medical plan provides comprehensive coverage, with different levels of out-of-pocket expenses and premium contribution rates. VisionPrescription Drug, and Employee Assistance Program (EAP) coverage are included with the medical benefit.

PPO Plan
The Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is a plan that provides coverage through a network of contracted health care providers, hospitals, and other medical professionals (preferred providers). By using “in-network” services, plan members benefit from reduced rates that are negotiated by the insurance carrier. Most enrollees on the State of Idaho plan subscribe to the PPO.

HDHP Plan

The High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) allows enrollees to save money on their monthly premiums. In return, these members pay higher deductibles and out of pocket maximums than other plans. This may be a good option for those who don’t anticipate many medical expenses. The HDHP plan utilizes the same network as the PPO.

The HDHP is compatible with an HSA (Health Savings Account). Think of an HSA as a 401K for your health. HSA’s are a way employees and employers can contribute pre-tax dollars to an account to pay for health care expenses. Best of all, these funds belong to the employees; there is no “use it or lose it” should an enrollee leave employment. The HSA is optional for those enrolled in the HDHP.

To enroll in an HSA, you must be enrolled in the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) and enrollees should review IRS guidelines. They are solely responsible for compliance.

HSA FAQ

Traditional Plan

The Traditional plan allows enrollees to access in-network or out-of-network providers and facilities for higher out of pocket costs. Although enrollees pay higher premiums, deductibles, and co-insurance rates, they enjoy the flexibility of not being restricted by the insurance carrier’s network.
